This month has been declared Workplace Violence Awareness Month. It’s designed to ensure that people who could normally care less about this issue, will pay attention to the dangers and help prevent it. Hopefully, they will since the statistics show that it is a very real and deadly item in all organizations.

Whether that be the 73% of businesses that don’t have a definitive plan to combat it to the 90% of employers who say that “It Can’t Happen Here” mentality…which increases their chances of having a fatal incident occur.

It also goes for everyone in law enforcement, the media, talking heads, and others who don’t believe in the statistics and stick to only one form of WPV…the blasting of a firearm in a fatal incident. WPV takes in all forms of assaults, harassment, threats, as well as physical assaults with coffee cups, pipe wrenches, firearms, and knives.

For those who are completely and totally misinformed on the issue, WPV can also take place off the business property. If it starts or ends at a facility, then it should be considered WPV…like a placing bomb under a co-worker’s vehicle at 0200 hours because of a work dispute.

Wake up & smell the bacon frying people…as I have said for a very long time

It can happen to Anyone…Any Time… Anywhere… For any Reason

And by the time it’s recognized it’s usually far too late to do anything but counted the traumatized, dead, & dying.
